Mary Hirschfeld

Mary Hirschfeld’s work is along the boundary between economics and theology, focused on using the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas to think through economics.

Mary holds a Ph.D. in Economics (Harvard, 1989) and a Ph.D. in Moral Theology (University of Notre Dame, 2013). In addition to numerous scholarly articles, her book, Aquinas and the Market: Toward a Humane Economy was published by Harvard University Press in 2018, and received the 2019 International Society and Economics prize awarded by the Fondazione Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice, given every two years to individuals who are making significant contributions to implementing the social doctrine of the Catholic Church.
